Gathering

When researching a topic or theme, I usually start with Google. I'll type in the topic/theme name with a "site:edu" modifier and start clicking. If I can't find what I'm looking for, I'll add a few words to the topic, or make a more specific search.

One thing (not from the sites) I could improve on is my tendency to get far off-topic from my topic/theme. I'll begin a search for "Pepsi-Cola product from the 1950s" and end up looking at a page on the Dancing Plague of 1518. But that comes with practice, I suppose.

One thing I did learn from the Berkeley search tips is to use other resources for searching (databases, periodicals, and other search engines).

Hopefully, with a bit of self-control and better searching habits, I'll be able to find things faster and easier.
